Technical data

  • IP address, device/browser information, pages visited, and basic logs used for security and performance.

3) How we use your data

We use your data to:

  • Provide the Hangar service (account access, collection features, spotting logs, photo uploads).
  • Manage subscriptions, payments, trials, renewals, and receipts.
  • Keep the service secure and prevent fraud/abuse.
  • Fix bugs, improve features, and understand how the site is used (where permitted).
  • Comply with legal and tax obligations.

4) Our lawful bases (UK GDPR)

We process personal data under the following lawful bases, depending on what’s happening:

  • Contract: to provide the service you sign up for (account, subscription features).
  • Legitimate interests: to run, secure, and improve Hangar (balanced against your rights).
  • Consent: for non-essential cookies/analytics and any marketing you explicitly opt into.
  • Legal obligation: where we must keep records (e.g., accounting/tax). ICO+1

5) Who we share data with

We share personal data only where needed to run Hangar, including with:

  • Hosting / infrastructure providers (to run the website).
  • Database/storage provider (e.g., Supabase) to store your collection data and uploaded photos.
  • Payment processors (e.g., Stripe/PayPal) to take subscription payments and manage renewals.
  • Email/support tools to handle account emails and support requests.
  • Analytics tools

These providers act as our processors and are required to protect your data.

6) International transfers

Some service providers may store or process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we use appropriate safeguards (such as the UK’s International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or other approved mechanisms) to protect your data. ICO+1

7) How long we keep your data

We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purposes described above:

  • Account and Hangar content: kept while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, unless we must keep certain records for legal reasons.
  • Billing records: kept as required for accounting/tax compliance.
  • Logs: kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.

8) Your rights

You have rights under UK data protection law, including the right to:

  • Be informed, access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict processing, object, and (in some cases) data portability. ICO+1

To exercise your rights, email hello@hangar-app.com. We may ask you to verify your identity before acting on a request.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you’re unhappy with how we handle your data. ICO

9) Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Make the site work (essential cookies).
  • Remember preferences.
  • (Optional) Measure usage/analytics.

Where required, we ask for your consent for non-essential cookies, and you can change your choices at any time via our cookie settings/banner (if enabled). ICO+1

10) Children

Hangar isn’t intended for children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we’ll remove it.

11) Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data (access controls, least-privilege access, secure transport where possible). No online service can be 100% secure, but we don’t treat security like an optional extra.

12) Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If changes are significant, we’ll post an update on the site and revise the effective date above.
